Graeme and Karen hire equipment & set up exhibition spaces and displays for events across the UK.
Their attention to detail, calm demeanour under stress, and customer focussed service is legendary in the events industry across Scotland and beyond. As they like to say: “problem” is not in their vocabulary.
I know this to be true first hand, as Graeme and Karen helped ensure that my own very special day ran smoothly. I know every business likes to boast that their clients are family, but in this case it’s true! Graeme & Karen are my wife’s aunt and uncle.
They helped my wife and I with the mammoth task of setting up our ambitious DIY wedding and were incredibly generous, lending us their trailer to transport equipment to Arran, and went the extra mile with surprise printed graphics for the trailer, which was really touching, and looked fantastic:
So when they later asked me to help them build a Scottish brand and website for their business I knew I was going to do the best website I could possibly do to represent their business.
It was important to capture Graeme and Karen’s unique approach to their business:
We already know about their professionalism, but what really sets them apart from their competition is the sense of fun they bring to setting up events.
I wanted to capture all of this in the brand and website, and show how the Shell Scheme Scotland team provide superior service, go above and beyond their competition, and have fun while doing it.
The Shell Scheme Scotland Team are known for their tartan trailer, which travels across the UK to set up for events, exhibitions, festivals and conferences.
I wanted to build on the tartan motif and took this as my inspiration for the logomark and also for the colour scheme.
I created the final logo design in a number of formats for digital use on the web, and also in graphics and large format print.
The logomark was a blend of their signature tartan, and an image of a shell scheme viewed from the front.
I designed a logo around the tartan pattern, cropped into the form of shell scheme panels.
I used the logomark as an emblem throughout the site as well as on various graphics and background imagery.
The colour scheme was taken from the design on Shell Scheme Scotland’s distinctive trailer, in a range of teal blue.
The main goals of the website design were threefold:
The website design had to be robust and hardy, but flexible enough to appeal to Shell Scheme Scotland’s wide range of clients in the events industry.
I also lent a hand tweaking and refining the copy for the website from a sales-led perspective, sprinkling my usual marketing magic across the design project.
We designed the website to rank across Scotland, users get the full quality experience on desktop and laptop in the office, on tablets while at events and exhibitions, or on mobile whilst on the move.
The landing page design of the website made full use of a video timelapse, showing the efficiency of the Shell Scheme Team. The website design also features prominent contact buttons to direct the user to an enquiry page.
The WordPress development helps to convey the sense of professionalism, but also the feeling of family and fun that Shell Scheme bring to every job.
Each service has been given it’s own page on the website. Each service has a gallery to show Shell Scheme’s expertise, and also helpful information for their clients to use for events. I used the tartan motif as a backdrop to the service thumbnails.
Graeme and Karen also asked me to add an information hub to each service on the website. Their clients in the events industry can refer to the website for guidance when setting up their shell schemes for events and exhibitions.
I animated Shell Scheme Scotland’s renowned tartan trailer for call to actions throughtout the site, to lead users to the contact button.
We selected x16 case studies to present the sheer range of events, exhibitions, festivals, conferences and more that Shell Scheme Scotland set up for. I also designed a sticky filter bar so users can view different event categories to suit their needs.
Each Case Study was given a full page on the website, with vital information such as location, services provided and client testimonials, to fully present the quality of service from Shell Scheme Scotland.
As always, I offered Graeme and Karen some extra marketing advice with their website and sprinkled some marketing dust over the design to ensure that vital trust signals such as testimonials, unique selling points and accreditations were featured on the website.
Graeme and Karen had collected numerous glowing revies from events across the country and I was determined that their praise be seen by potential customers on the website.
Of course the main purpose of the website is to reach new customers. I designed a custom contact form to gather all the necessary information from each customer to smooth the enquiry process for Shell Scheme Scotland.
I designed a number of automated popups to help gather more enquiries from the website for Shell Scheme Scotland. The website also features a sticky contact popup that floats in the corner to encourage users to contact Graeme and Karen directly.
For this design project, I partnered with Harrison Reid at Photography Everything who provided professional photography and videography for the project.
As a web designer, Harrison is a pleasure to work with: he goes the extra mile to give creative direction and also plans his photography ahead knowing that his images will be used on websites with text and information over the top.
His services were simply amazing and he perfectly captured the family spirit of the business and helps Shell Scheme Scotland’s superior service stand out from the competition.
