The Brief
Alexandra Donald is the UK’s best dance photographer specialising in a unique style of smoke and powder photography that helps her clients stand out in a competitive market. Her impressive photography manages to capture the intense dynamic movement in her subjects’ dance routines.
Unfortunately, her existing website was failing to communicate the value and unique style of her work to potential clients.
Alexandra felt when she was advertising at events, other photographers were booking out while her calendar was quiet so she approached Design Hero to help.

Like many photographers, her new portfolio website took a minimalist approach, a direction often used on photographer portfolio websites. It often makes sense to use a minimalist style on photographers’ websites; it helps keep the photography front and centre, with no distractions.
But in Alexandra’s case, Design Hero recognised that something different was needed and aimed to immerse the user in Alexandra’s signature style of photography. The photos had to be positively bursting out of the page with action and drama, just like in her photos

Instead of using a minimalist style, the new portfolio website design leans into Alexandra’s unique style, enhancing the photography by helping the impressive colours to jump out of the page.

Each of Alexandra’s services are given the same treatment with impressive galleries, info for the customer and online booking to give the customer all the trust they need to place a booking without looking any further.
Dance Photography website
Where the old website was minimalist and plain, the new website is colourful, vibrant and dynamic. Her photos move, shift and each section picks the colours out of the photography to use as the background colour.
Online Booking
The new booking website allows Alexandra’s clients to book directly and securely through the website, paying full amount or by deposit. This extra level of security encourages the online bookings which were missing before.

Each of Alexandra’s services can be controlled from the dashboard, she can upload and manage her own galleries and portfolio from a simple user interface.
